Disability Awareness Days

This past year Dance Marathon teamed up with the local Ann Arbor schools in a workshop called Disability Awareness Day. This one-day program was designed to help elementary school students understand the complexities of living with a disability. It provided hands-on learning and gave students a chance to help make their school more accessible for children with disabilities.

The day allowed the children to rotate through a variety of stations designed to help them experience some of the challenges of physical, vision, speech, hearing and learning impairments. This workshop helped the students learn about functions they may take for granted, and which require people with disabilities to improvise. DM students were happy to volunteer their time to help with the event and share their experiences of working in therapies designed to help children with disabilities.

Dance Marathon's leaders teach the kids a short dance as part of their presentation.
