Ways to get involved in Dance Marathon

There are many ways to get involved within Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan. Positions are available for all commitment levels, and there are many different aspects that you can get involved in from Recruitment to Digital Marketing to Family and Hospital Relations to Dancer Fundraising. You will be engaged and empowered within the organization to go above and beyond all expectations.

Moralers

Moralers help the dancers stay energized and on their feet during the 30 hour marathon, while getting to experience the amazing aspects of the Marathon! Moralers get an aspect of the marathon experience, but their primary goal is to keep the dancers going throughout the amazing event. Volunteers

Volunteers help out at the actual marathon with a number of tasks like crew, registration, set-up, and more! It is a great way to get volunteer and community service hours in a fun and interactive way. We also cater to large groups of corporate and community service teams and groups. Dancers

As a DMUM Dancer you will meet new and amazing people, have a ton a fun, and get to interact with amazing DMUM families. You will have the opportunity to attend events all year, fundraise for the amazing cause, and top it off by attending the 30 hour marathon in March. The 30-hour marathon is something truly life-changing and something you simply can not miss! (Marathon Link) As a dancer, you will also be put on a team with two Dancer Captains, who will help you fundraise and support you throughout the year. No dancing experience is required or needed

Leadership

Dancer Captains

A pair of two dancer captains (or DC's) lead a team of 10-18 dancers throughout the year leading up to the Marathon. Captians are responsible for communicating with your DMUM family, organizing team meetings and fundraisers, educating their team on DM families and programs, as well as work with other DM leadership to prepare your team for the marathon.

Dancer Representatives

Dancer Fundraising Representatives

DF Reps have the responsibilities of a DC as well as the responsibility of managing a pod of six teams. DF Reps guide the DC's in getting their dancers to fundraise, fundraise, FUNDRAISE! DF reps are responsible for providing help to DC's and dancers on any and all fundraising concerns, organizing and implementing pod wide and organization wide fundraisers, and working with other pod leadership to prepare dancers for the marathon.

Dancer Relations Representatives

DR reps have the responsibilities of a DC as well as the responsibility of managing a pod of 6 teams. DR Reps guide the captains in their pod to provide teh best possible experience for each dancer. DR Reps are responsible for organizing dancer orientations as well as DC retreat/education, keeping DC's informed about everything DM related, and working with other pod leadership to prepare dancers for the marathon.

Morale Captains

Morale Captains (or MC's) are responsbile for providing all the energy and excitement both at the marathon and throughout the year! MC's have two dancer teams to support and keep pumped up all year. In addition, MC's spend the year planning the activties and entertainment that will take place at the marathon, including the line dance, lip sync, spirit competition and more!

Family and Hospital Relations Representatives

FHR Representatives will interact with families, kids, fellow dancers, community members, and hospital staff in order to create an unwavering passion for the Dance Marathon cause. FHR Reps will play a key role in the creation, planning, and management for family and education events such as Charity Ball and Education Event. Additionally, Reps will be a dancer captain and part of pod leadership to increase understanding of the cause through pod and team education and volunteering efforts throughout the year.

Committee Members

The members of DMUM's 14 committees do everything from update the website, to designing flyers, to planning volunteer events and everything inbetween. While you can join many of our committees if you are a dancer, you do not have to be a dancer to be on a committee. Check out the committees page to see which one is right for you!
