Visitors

Hundreds of visitors come to the Marathon and cheer on our dancers (participants), while they stand on their feet for THIRTY HOURS! Visitors can support dancers by offering massages, bringing snacks or gifts, or even just providing a friendly face and positive attitude. Visiting the Marathon is also a great opportunity to learn more about how we support therapy programs for children with limitations. Visitors can also take part in the marathon experience just like the dancers, by doing crafts and activities, watching performances, learning the linedance, and playing with all of our adorable DM kids!

Location

Indoor Track and Field Building
1150 S. State St. Ann Arbor, MI 48104

Parking

On Saturday from 10am – 11pm, you cannot park in the lot behind Yost unless you are a DMUM family.
All other traffic should turn onto Hoover Street off of State St. Once at the entrance, there will be someone there to show them where to park. You will be directed to a Blue lot on Green St. or to the Crisler lot. For better understanding, check out our Parking Map.

Community Tours

This year we will be offering Community Tours to give visitors a formal overview and presentation of the Marathon. We understand that as a visitor, the Marathon can appear large and overwhelming, and we do not want you to miss a chance to see all that it has to offer. We have three different tour times throughout the weekend and encourage you to RSVP for a tour time while you are visiting a dancer during the weekend. Each tour will last approximately 30 minutes in length and will begin at the Visitor Check-In station of the Marathon. To RSVP for a Community Tour, please click here. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact dmum.outreach@umich.edu.

Things to Avoid

Our dancers don’t know what time it is, so be sure to keep it a secret! We keep the time from dancers because it makes the 30 hours go by a lot faster. Also, everyone loves having their favorite foods brought to them, so feel free to bring snacks-just make sure to leave the caffeine at home…it will end up making the dancers crash.

Locating your family/friends

Dancers are encouraged to leave their phones at home, so do not plan on being able to reach them. When you arrive at the Marathon there will be people there to assist you in finding your dancer.

DM store

That's right, the Marathon Store will be back for another year! The Marathon Store will feature apparel and souvenirs not sold at any other time of year. All proceeds from the store will benefit our cause, so be sure to check it out! You can pay with cash or credit card at the store so don’t forget to bring that if you intend to shop!

Your Support

This year we’ve set our fundraising goal higher than ever! With your support we’ll be able to fund new and innovative therapy programs as well as therapies we’ve worked with for years. The Marathon is a great time to have an impact on our organization. With every donation we are able to reach out to more children with disabilities. A donation is also a way to show your support for the hundreds of students standing for 30 hours. You can donate online by credit card at www.dmum.org, or bring cash or checks to the Marathon itself!
